Terra Mater

Terra Mater is a body of work that approaches the earth not as a landscape to be depicted, but as a living entity carrying memory and time within its substance. Through soil, mineral pigments, ashes, and organic matter, the series explores the intimate relationship between human presence and the natural world, where traces of change, erosion, and transformation become embedded within the surface itself.

The works are characterized by layered textures, cracks, and sculptural reliefs that evoke both geological formations and bodily skin. These surfaces suggest landscapes in tension, where fragility and endurance coexist. Rather than illustrating environmental issues directly, Terra Mater reflects on the silent imprints left by time, human activity, and natural forces.

At its core, the series considers the earth as a sensitive organism, capable of regeneration yet exposed to repeated disruption. Within this fragile equilibrium, landscapes and living bodies mirror one another, revealing a shared condition of vulnerability, resilience, and continuous transformation.

Our fairy, Mixed-media & acrylic painting canvas, 70 x 50 cm, 2014

In many cultures, the fae were associated with linking our world with that higher power.

It is understandable to feel concerned about the potential consequences of something bad happening to a fae. It is important to consider the impact of our actions on each other, and strive to care for one another in order to prevent causing harm. We should strive to be a source of light and positivity in each other's lives, just like the fae, and remember that we all have the power to make a positive change in the world.

The earth, Mixed-media & acrylic painting canvas, 150 x 150 cm, 2014

"From the Source" is an ode to Mother Nature, her profound sensitivity, and her fundamental role in the genesis of life. Through sculpted reliefs, this artwork evokes the creative force of femininity—a power that shapes, nourishes, and protects. The central opening, both subtle and striking, becomes the pulsing heart of a primordial energy, recalling the world's origins and the intimate connection between humankind and the earth.

The intertwined curves and textures mimic organic patterns found in nature, such as underground roots or the flowing waves of a river. They embody the ceaseless flux of life, its fragile yet powerful rhythm. The contrast between darkness and bursts of red symbolizes both the vulnerability and resilience of nature, capable of rebirth despite the wounds inflicted by humankind.

This piece expresses the sacred relationship between sensitivity and creation, emphasizing that nature, like womanhood, is a source of balance and renewal. Through a material-driven and tactile approach, "From the Source" invites intimate contemplation—to feel the pulse of the earth, to perceive its vital force, and to hear its silent call for preservation.

Family of Butterfly Hill, Mixed-media & acrylic painting canvas, 35 x 27 cm, 2021

"Family of Butterfly Hill" pays tribute to Julia Butterfly Hill, the environmental activist who lived two years in a redwood tree to protect it. Slender forms rise from a cracked earth, embodying resistance against nature’s destruction. Between rootedness and transformation, the material feels alive, oscillating between fragility and strength. Through textures and contrasts, this piece questions human impact on the environment and honors those, like Hill, who fight to preserve the beauty and balance of the natural world.
